The penultimate chapter of the Landkist Saga was a labor of love … but it was also an endurance test. This one clocks in as the longest entry in the series to date, featuring the largest POV cast the series has seen and changing locales and vistas often.

As such, settling on a concept for the cover proved more challenging than previous entries, which largely focused on one setting in particular. At the end of the day, each book in the Landkist Saga has dealt primarily with one or more of the prime powers in the wider world – namely, the Sages, and Book 4 is no different.

That’s why I decided the Frostfire Sage should take center stage on the cover. But even then, this character is something of a mystery, even through large portions of the book. It felt wrong to reveal her in all her (in)glory. Instead, I decided this was the book to finally give readers up close and personal renditions of some of the Saga’s main characters, who’ve been (intentionally) overshadowed by setting and titanic creatures in previous covers.
