Petra MacDonald and the Queen of the Fae by Shona Kinsella – COVER REVEAL
On the first day of Fantasycon 2017, I heard that one of my favourite small presses, Fox Spirit, were opening submissions for the month of October. I had nothing complete and submission ready, but I did have an idea for a novella with a very rough outline. Could I write and revise a novella in a month? Was that really possible?
Well, as soon as I got home, I got to work on Petra MacDonald and the Queen of the Fae. Turns out, I managed to write and revise it with three days to spare. The wait was torturous, as these things always are but I’m delighted to say that, at the end of January I joined the skulk.
When I was consulting with the cover artist, Tabatha Stirling, I knew that I wanted a simple cover but something that would convey the menace of the story. I feel that she got it exactly right and I adore the image she came up with.
Petra MacDonald is a bisexual, pagan artist who lives and works on a small Scottish island. While in trance, she paints a young girl who has been abducted by the Queen of the Fae and it falls to Petra to save her. She must travel to Faery, collect three items for the queen, escape the sex spell of the Selkie prince and steal the loyalty of her fae guard. Can she do all this and bring the child home before it’s too late?
