Wyrd and Wonder – The Month of May in Pictures

Today is the very last day of this year’s Wyrd and Wonder, and it’s safe to say that we have had an absolute blast taking part! Although we feature plenty of genres on The Fantasy Hive, we do of course have a soft spot for fantasy, so spending a month celebrating has been so much fun.

Particular thanks to our Social Media Empress, Nils, for corralling us into taking part in the daily photo challenge! She managed to turn Julia into quite the bookstagrammer. We’re pretty proud of our pics, and were over the moon when some of you tagged us in your entries too. So, here’s a round-up of our month in pictures.

1. Your Wyrd and Wonderful TBR

2. Start Here

Here’s some books our team would recommend to any reader new to the fantasy genre

Adeel_Reads on Twitter recommended Robin Hobb as a great gateway into fantasy!

3. The Best Things Come in Threes

Favourite trilogies!

This was a popular prompt!

4. Rebellions are Built on Hope

Happy Star Wars Day!

5. Confounding Expectations

We had a long think about this one…

6. Goblins

7. Under-rated

8. Can’t Wait to Read

9. #StackSaturday

10. Spine Poetry OR Mother’s Day

We absolutely loved Fiona’s spine poem:

There will come a darkness
Binding the silver wind
Under the pendulum sun.
One of us, unsheltered.
Adrift beneath the rising.
This is how you lose the time war.

And Mike decided to go with the Mother’s Day prompt:

I opted for Mother’s Day because Queen Talyien is no Mother of Dragons – she’s so much more. One of the most memorable characters in fantasy and one of the best books of 2020!
