THE FLAME AND THE FLOOD by Shona Kinsella (COVER REVEAL)
I’m Shona Kinsella and today I’m super excited to bring you a cover reveal for my new novella THE FLAME AND THE FLOOD from Fox Spirit Books!
In Slyvo, one child in a hundred is born with an affinity: a magical link to an element, able to shape and use it as they choose. If they are lucky they will become a master craftsman, able to command high prices; if they are unlucky, the factories always demand new wielders, kept as slaves and worked to exhaustion.
Talis and Almoris are free wielders, dedicating their lives to helping wielders leave the country for better lives abroad. But not everyone believes in their mission, and not everyone can be trusted – when Almoris takes in a runaway, they find themselves pulled into a mission that puts their lives in danger and threatens both their loyalties and their love.
Without further ado, here’s the cover:
As an author, getting to see the cover for my books is always one of the most exciting aspects of the journey. It’s the stage when the book seems to take on a life of its own – it becomes its own thing, separate from me and the numerous files on my laptop. I can honestly say that when I opened the email with this cover, by Sarah Anne Langton (@xHelloSarahx), I actually squealed with joy. I mean, just look at it. Take a minute to really let your eyes explore the detail and depth that Sarah has produced here. It’s stunning. I couldn’t be happier with it.
When Adele and I were first talking about a cover artist and kicking around some ideas for the design, all I really had in mind was something involving the skyline – hinting at the factories and industrial setting of the story. We agreed that Sarah had the right style for it, but I can’t say I really had any idea of what to expect – or offered any useful input! Sarah managed to put this together from a few extracts and a very vague brief.
If you’d like to hear me reading a brief extract from The Flame and the Flood, you can check out the video here, on the Super Relaxed Fantasy Club’s YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/_x86ndFVApI
The book should be available in the next week or two so keep an eye on Fox Spirit’s website and social media.
