Women in SFF 2021 – INTRO

By The Fantasy Hive

Welcome to our Women in SFF Feature – 2021!

We started this feature last year and had a fantastic response, so we’re super excited to be bringing it back once more – bigger and better than ever!

Women in SFF is an opportunity to celebrate female writers of fantasy, sci-fi, and everything in between, as well as all our favourite characters in those genres also.

This year, the team have had their planning hats on, and we have a whole host of content lined up for you.

We would absolutely love you all to take part; from reviews, recommendation lists, articles – however you decide to join in, let us know by using #WomenInSFF and/or tagging @TheFantasyHive

What’s coming up this month?

UK cover

The Read-along

The Hive is hosting our first ever read-along! We held a Twitter poll, and our followers decided upon S. A. Chakraborty’s spellbinding debut City of Brass.

You can find out all about it and our process when we post the read-along intro this afternoon.

The Photo Challenge

We are also hosting our first ever photo challenge!

You can join in on either Twitter or Instagram using #WomenInSFF, and we can’t wait to see all your responses.

To find out more about the challenge and each of the prompts, check out our post HERE.

Guest Posts

This year we’ve been blown away by the support from authors and publishers, and we’re thrilled to be able to bring you a month chock-full of articles on a range of subjects from authors such as:

Michelle Kenney

Ginger Smith

Caroline Hardaker

Rachel Emma Shaw

M. L. Wang

Heather Child

Timandra Whitecastle

E J Beaton

Sam Hawk

Rowenna Miller

Amanda Bridgeman

And plenty more…

As well as a guest post from Angry Robot Books’ female editors and publicists!

GIVEAWAYS

Keep your eyes peeled next week on Twitter where we’ll be announcing  g i v e a w a y s  throughout the week!

Interviews

Last year, our Women In SFF interviews were pretty popular; it’s a great way of finding new authors to love after all. This month, we’ll be bringing you interviews and author spotlights with authors such as:

Sammy H K Smith

Stark Holborn

J A  Andrews

Rachel Emma Shaw

Katherine Addison

And more!

Reviews and Recommendations

And of course we’ll still be bringing you plenty of reviews to bump up your TBR – for example, Asha has some great reviews lined up for us, and Jonathan Thornton will be working through Octavia Butler’s Xenogenesis novels. Julia will be bringing you an updated list of her favourite female authors in SFF, Nils will be drooling over covers in a post about some of the amazing female illustrators and designers out there, and we’ll be taking a look at some of our favourite self-published female characters in this month’s Tough Travelling.

As you can see, it’s going to be a busy month on the Hive, and we can’t wait to share all this with you!
