Women in SFF Week 2 Wrap Up

We’ve reached the end of our second week for this year’s Women In SFF, so let’s see what’s been happening in the feature this week!

We’ve been completely floored by the incredible response from the community; we can’t tell you how much we love seeing all your responses to our photo challenge prompts, or how properly excited we get to see blog posts inspired by them!

Each week, we’ll try and round up all this wonderful content into one summary-wrap-up post – if we’ve missed you, please comment and link below! We’d love to see the ways you’re taking part.

So, what have you all been up to…?

Reviews

We’re going to kick the wrap-up off with reviews, as that’s what we’re all here for really, right? Finding those books to add to our TBR!

Jonathan @ the Hive: Imago by Octavia E. Butler

Asha @ the Hive: Lord of Secrets by Breanna Teintze

Holly @ the Grimdragon: Space Opera by Catherynne M. Valente

Suzanne @ Spellbound_by_books: We Ride the Storm by Devin Madson

Scott @ Book Invasion: We Have Always Been Here by Lena Nguyen

Peat @ Peat Long’s Blog: Take a Thief by Mercedes Lackey

Posts, Articles and Threads

There were plenty of ways we all celebrated Women in SFF this week –

Ginger Smith joined us with an article about the Women in SFF who inspired her to become a writer.

Heather Child explored the ways in which “time” is developed as a theme in fantasy.

We were joined by Aparna Verma in our Author Spotlight feature.

Stark Holborn returned to the Hive for our Author Spotlight feature.

M. L. Wang discussed the pitfalls of creating magic systems based on genders.

Rachel Emma Shaw popped back this week to take part in our Author Spotlight feature.

Timandra Whitecastle took us on an informative journey as she discussed story structure and the Heroine’s Journey.

Neera @neera_exlibris shared with us her favourite female POC authors with a beautiful post on IG.

Read-along

On Wednesday, we released this week’s discussion questions for our #WomenInSFFReadalong of The City of Brass by S. A. Chakraborty.

Nils has also created a Discord channel where we can chat about the book!

As responses come in, I’ll update this page:

Week 1

Nils & Beth @ the Hive

Ariana from The Book Nook

Week 2

Nils & Beth @ the Hive

Photo Challenge

We have absolutely loved seeing all your responses again this week:

Day 10: Diversify Your Reading – Female Authors/Stories Confronting Racial Prejudice

Day 11: #SuperlativeSunday: Most Intelligent

Day 12: Queen of Sci-Fi (Favourite Author)

Day 13: The Royal – Women in Power

Day 14: Someone To Look Up To – Older Characters

Day 15: Antiheroes

Day 16: Starship Trooper (Favourite Sci-fi Character)

Thank you for another fantastic week of Women in SFF!
