Wyrd & Wonder Throwback Thursday
What’s that? We’re doing another weekly Wyrd & Wonder feature post? You betcha!
Welcome to Throwback Thursdays with Wyrd &Wonder!
It’s been five years of W&W. Five. F I V E.
That means it’s been five years of their awesome photo challenges on Instagram. Now, I know I’ve taken part in at least some capacity (2019 and your six posts, I’m lookin at you) for each year, and Julia and Nils have been along for the ride on a couple of them. So, I thought it would be a great way to celebrate five years of the photo challenge by taking a look back over our favourite prompts!
Each week, we’ll take a look at something different, and our favourite responses (not necessarily just our own).
Every Wyrd and Wonder kicks off with a look at our TBRs for the upcoming month.
Let’s take a look back at ours – and any promises we might have broken…
Beth
This was my first ever Wyrd and Wonder post back in its first year – 2018. I’m pleased to say that yes, I have read all these books… but I must confess the only one I actually read during that month was Kings of the Wyld!
My 2019 TBR is a very painful one to look back on as -deep breath- I’ve still only read four of the seventeen books listed here. Please don’t send me to book jail. I only read two of them during that month too. I’m already regretting this exercise.
2020 to the rescue! (Said no-one ever). I’ve read all four! But did you read all four during May? No I did not! Only God of Gnomes. In fact I didn’t read Spellslinger til Asha did a readalong in 2022…
And finally my 2021 TBR. Ok Bone Shard was a re-read because it was that year’s read-along! It didn’t take me a year to read it thankfully. There’s only one here I didn’t read, The Light of the Midnight Stars, and still haven’t after the author made comments I disagreed with. However – I read both Midnight Bargain and Marion Lane during this W&W! It only took four years for me to finally stick to a W&W TBR…
Nils
This was my TBR for Wyrd and Wonder 2020 and I’m happy to say I read both of these and loved them! Doors of Eden was my first book by Tchaikovsky but wow, it really impressed me. I was also grateful that Wyrd and Wonder gave me an excuse to put Words of Radiance on my tbr because I had read the first book The Way of Kings the previous year and desperately needed to read the sequel. In fact the whole of 2020 was my year of reading The Stormlight Archives by Brandon Sanderson and each one blew me away.
This was my 2021 TBR for Wyrd and Wonder and look how optimistic I was!! Since this was taken I have read three of these, The Hand of the Sun King which I loved, The Bone Shard Daughter (which was the first ever Wyrd and Wonder readalong I participated in – I adored this book!) and The Coward by Stephen Aryan. The rest are still on my TBR – but hey, it just means I have them to look forward to!
Julia
I only ever joined Instagram in 2020, especially for Wyrd and Wonder that year! I’m so happy I did, I found so many great people and amazing books there. I also get so much happiness from sharing my own favourites with the rest of the world!
As you can see my photo skills, and even my understanding of the square format in insta was a bit wonky back then. But at least I actually read all three of my books!
I was very happy when I got to do my second round in 2021, and as you can see, I now got the hang of taking square pictures. I managed to get through all the audiobooks I listed.
With my actual print books, as always, I was much worse. I managed to read Queen of the Conquered during Wyrd and Wonder, and have finished Pawn’s Gambit this year. The other two are still waiting for me to get around to it…
Ha I love this. I wonder if I ever read my full W&W Tbrs
