Welcome once more to Women in SFF!

We are back for our fourth year celebrating and giving a platform to women in the SFF genres, and we’ve already reached the end of our first week.

Each week, we’ll try and round up all this wonderful content into one summary-wrap-up post – if we’ve missed you, please comment and link below! We’d love to see the ways you’re taking part.

So, what have you all been up to…?

Reviews

It’s been a quiet first week for reviews so far this year…

Beth reviewed Talonsister by Jen Williams here on the Fantasy Hive:

An unforgettable magical fable from Britain’s Queen of fantasy.

And over on Instagram, Matías reviewed Greywaren by Maggie Stiefvater:

Stiefvater really played with my emotions. But in the end, this book was everything I could have asked for.

Posts, Articles and Threads

There were plenty of ways we all celebrated Women in SFF this week –

  • We shared an excerpt from Caroline Hardaker’s upcoming novel Mothtown: read here
  • Louise Carey, author of the Inscape trilogy, wrote a great guest post on the growing concerns of our dependency on social media and how that relates to dystopian fiction: read here
  • We shared an excerpt from The Water Outlaws by S. L. Huang: read here
  • Sangu Mandanna, author of The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches, wrote a guest post on the rise in popularity of cosy fantasy with plenty of brilliant recommendations: read here
  • We interviewed Joanne Harris on her latest novel Broken Light: read here
  • Julia gave us an update on her favourite Women in SFF: read here
  • Jane Hennigan, author of Moths, joined us to explore her favourite works of dystopian fiction and female characters to be found in them: read here
  • Mindwalker author Kate Dylan joined us for an interview about her novels: read here
  • And we shared our first Friday Favourites post, looking at our Top Three favourite reads since last year’s Women in SFF: read here

Photo Challenge

And finally, the photo challenge. This year, we scaled it back with only the three prompts a week, but the response has been bigger than ever!

Mon 3rd: TBR

Wed 5th: Marvellously Magical

A female character with your favourite magical ability

Fri 7th: Friday Favourites

A favourite read since last WSFF
