Today, we’re super excited to be taking part in Angry Robot’s cover reveal for Jane Hennigan’s TOXXIC!

Toxxic is the sequel to Jane Hennigan’s feminist dystopia Moths. It’s expected for release on 12th March 2024.

Want to know more about it? Here’s the official blurb:

Forty years ago, the world changed. Men became crazed killers and threatened all humanity. Now the world might be about to change again, but will it be for the better?

For fans of The Power by Naomi Alderman, The End of Men by Christina Sweeney-Baird, and When Women Were Dragons by Kelly Barnhill

Forty-four years ago, as any schoolgirl can tell you, the moth’s eggs hatched and an army of caterpillars spread their tiny toxic threads on every breath of wind.  Since then, men have been cloistered, protected from birth against the deadly poison.

But now there’s a vaccine – a way that men can leave the facility without dying or suffering from psychosis.  Emerging, into their new world, eyes wide with wonder at every new experience, the truth soon becomes clear.

This world was not made for men.  And they are not safe.

Let’s check out that cover!

Cover Designer: Sarah O’Flaherty

Quote from author, Jane:

“The designers at Angry Robot have knocked it out of the park again. The colour choice is brilliant. Toxxic is a sequel, and I love how well the green contrasts with the yellow cover of Moths, and how the graphics are suggestive without giving any out-and-out spoilers. I can’t wait to see both books side by side on a shelf in a bookshop!”

Quote from the cover artist, Sarah:

‘This book is the follow on from Moth’s so I wanted this design to integrate well with the first. For this cover to follow the same design language it needed to have another striking image that would portray an element of Jane’s story. I also incorporated a syringe into the typography to represent the vaccine. The colour chosen was to reinforce the idea of something toxic. I think this cover design works well in harmony with ‘Moths’ while also standing out on its own.’

Toxxic is due for release 12th March 2024. You can pre-order your copy on the Angry Robot Website

Jane Hennigan was born and raised in Aldershot in Hampshire. After a decade working in E-commerce, she gained a degree in English Literature and Philosophy from Royal Holloway, and an MA in Creative Writing from the University of Surrey.
