Let’s hear what Simon thinks…

This book is a thriller and a murder mystery largely set upon Möbius Station – a battered and anarchic space station in Mars orbit. The station has an eccentric design; it’s in the shape of a doubly-twisted Möblus Strip, deliberately representing an “Infinite road”, as it was built at a time of great human optimism. This was a lot of fun to write, but I was conscious that creating cover art was always going to be a challenge. I loved the idea of depicting the station with the bulk of Mars behind It, but I knew the chances of finding the right image for the cover were going to be somewhere between slim and zero. I was delighted, therefore, when Elsewhen Press commissioned renowned sci/fl artist Alex Storer to handcraft an image, depicting the station and the planet. I actually felt quite emotional seeing the mockups for the first time Images like that had been in my head for some time, and it was wonderful to see them for real. Alex was a delight to work with; we spent quite a bit of time discussing the tone and themes of the book and the best layout designs to use, while also laying the groundwork for potential cover designs Tor other books in the series. I’m absolutely thrilled with what we’ve come up with.

Simon Kewin is a pseudonym used by an Infinite number of monkeys who operate from a secret location deep in the English countryside. Every now and then they produce a manuscript that reads as a complete novel with a beginning, a middle and an end. Sometimes even in that order.

The Simon Kewin persona devised by the monkeys was born on the misty Isle of Man in the middle of the Irish Sea, at around the time The Beatles were twisting and shouting. He moved to the UK as a teenager, where he still resides. He is the author of over a hundred published short stories and poems, as well as a growing number of novels. In addition to fiction, he also writes computer software. The key thing, he finds, is not to get the two mixed up.

He has a first class honours degree in English Literature and an MA in Creative Writing (distinction). He’s married and has two daughters.

Alex Storer is an artist/illustrator and electronic musician based in Sheffield, UK.

A lifelong interest in science fiction came full circle in 2010 when Alex began realising his own visions of future times and places. Taking inspiration from classic SF literature, his work pays homage to yesterday’s visions of tomorrow, yet remains contemporary and distinctive in style.

He first encountered computer art during a school art class in 1990-a moment that would ultimately define his career in graphic arts. As an avid reader, he appreciates a book’s cover art as much as the words inside, and it was this love which led to him pursuing his ambition to create his own pieces and work as a cover illustrator.

His first public exhibition came in 2011 when his digital painting Awakening was selected for inclusion in Brave New Worlds, an exhibition of utopian and dystoplan art, held at the Riverside Gallery in Richmond Upon Thames.

Music is the other aspect of his work. He has been composing atmospheric instrumental music since 2006, under the name The Light Dreams. It comes as no surprise that there is an overlap between his art and music, which takes Influence from science fiction, travel and dreams as well as numerous pioneering artists and composers.

In 2012, Alex became honorary artist and musician for the Initiative for Interstellar Studies, and has since released several albums in support of the Initiative. His work is Independently released via the Bandcamp platform.
