NUMA THE HUNTER by Stas Borodin (COVER REVEAL)
Today, we’re bringing you something a little different.
We’re thrilled to host the cover reveal for SPFBO 6 author Stas Borodin’s graphic novel NUMA THE HUNTER.
Here’s the blurb:
Under the shuttered moon, on an alien world populated by giant insects and bizarre beasts, a young hunter embarks on a perilous journey to find his lost kin and save his race from extinction.
In vein of Edgar Rice Burroughs and Robert Howard, inspired by Frank Frazetta and Moebius we present you a vast new world to explore and a set of unique characters to love and hate.
Sound intriguing? Check out the cover!
That’s quite the giant bug, right? Here’s what Stas had to say about the process or writing and illustrating this work himself:
At first, I wanted to do a Frazetta style cover. With the main character in the foreground and a creeping monster in the background.
But then I realized that it didn’t work for me.
What I wanted to draw next was a huge bug. Bugs are so damn cool and also an important part of my story. So, I started with some kind of water beetle, and only after that I drew a hunter. Funny, but it wasn’t until I started adding color that I realized that Numa has blue skin. When I was planning the story, I imagined that the main character has a red skin, but the cover decided that I was wrong.
So now he looks more like Na’vi than Hellboy!
At the very beginning, when I was making a fist draft, I decided against using word balloons, and lettering for sound effects. I wanted my pages to be clean, more like book illustrations. It turned out to be very difficult. It’s up to you to decide whether I succeeded or not.
I want to thank Beth and Nils for this Cover Reveal, you guys rock!
Thank you so much Stas!
