Angry Robot Books win auction for Space Brooms! – a science-fiction comedy novel featuring low stakes and even lower lives – by AG Rodriguez

Angry Robot Books is delighted to announce the acquisition of AG Rodriguez’s novel, Space Brooms! Written in our Solar System, several centuries in the future, featuring Latino/a/e/x characters and stories, as well as a supporting cast of LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC characters, this is an underdog tale with found family and space chases.

AG Rodriguez is Chicago-born to Puerto Rican emigrants and is a graduate of Southern New Hampshire University with a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing.

Space Brooms! features Johnny Gomez, a custodian (or space broom) on Kilgore Station, as he teams up with a pair of smugglers to sell a stolen data chip full of video game avatars and finally make his fortune…

Space Brooms! will be published on 25 March 2025

QUOTES:

AG Rodriguez: “My nerdy inner child, the one who collected Star Wars figurines and memorized entire episodes of Futurama, is having an asthma attack from all the excitement! I still cannot believe that this goofy, shameless, and often ridiculous love letter to science fiction of mine found a home, especially one as fantastic as Angry Robot. Space Brooms! and I are in perfect hands.”

Gemma Creffield: “I had such a great time with Space Brooms! Everyone loves an underdog story, and Johnny Gomez is the sweetest disaster to follow on his journey of custodian to hero. It’s an absolutely charming read and I’m excited to be bringing AG Rodriguez’s first foray into the adult market into the Robot family!”

Stephanie Hansen: “The powerful synergy between the gifted wordsmith, A.G. Rodriguez, and the unwavering backing of Angry Robot creates a magical force. I am overjoyed to witness this dynamic partnership thrive and prosper.”
