PRIDE FALL by Daniel Potter – COVER REVEAL
Today, we welcome Daniel Potter back to the Fantasy Hive as he reveals the cover of his new book Pride Fall – the fifth book in his Freelance Familiars series which began with SPFBO 2016 semi-finalist Off Leash.
Check out the blurb for Pride Fall before I hand you over to Daniel himself:
Thomas wanted a vacation, not a civil war.
Shina is pure feline fatale, five hundred pounds of lithe muscle, a queen among lionesses. Not some one easy to say no to.
When she offers Thomas a week of hunting with her he says yes. He knows she’s after something more than company but he had no idea it would lead to a bloody civil war within the most powerful House of mages in the Awakened world. Now Thomas and his newly minted House Khatt must choose sides in conflict that could spread to all of Vegas and kill an entire city of mundanes.
Meanwhile old enemies take advantage of his distraction.
Before it is over, the lions will rain.
It started off so simply, so innocent. A single question: What did a magical world look from the point of a view of a talking cat?
That question led me to Thomas, the reluctant mountain lion who refuses to go with the normal flow of the magical world. His guide to the world he’s found himself in? An embittered squirrel familiar who has a love of blowing things up. Together they solve a mystery and save a dragon.
See? A simple and innocent concept. Could be a kid’s cartoon, right? The day is saved through the power of their friendship.
Except that’s not how it worked out. It’s not how my mind creates. In the first book’s SPBFO review, Off Leash, Laura noted that its “…not entirely devoid of grimness.” Because despite the fur, tails and scales, all my characters have real hearts and hurts. No magic beams of friendship smite bad guys here, victory’s never without a string or a cost.
Also Thomas drops the F-bombs way too often to get onto the set of a kid’s cartoon.
Now admittedly, I didn’t really know what I had written after the first book. And that is reflected on the cover of the first book. It’s a perfectly fine and on brand cover. Its got a cougar, Thomas, and a squirrel, Rudy, running away from a fireball. Now look at the second cover, they’re not running away. The squirrel’s got a collection of bottle rockets and Thomas is snarling at whomever just attempted to fire a laser beam in his direction. That second book is the real start of the series, when the Freelance Familiars start fighting with every ridiculous means at their disposal. Book Three moves this aggressive posture to Vegas still fighting.
Finally in book four, Aggressive Behavior, we see Rudy piloting a giant robot and Thomas welding a magical sword without any human help. They exude a bold confidence.
That won’t last…
And it doesn’t. Bringing us to the Pride Fall, the fifth book’s cover.
Rudy and Thomas are falling, they have no weapons, no armor among a rain of lions. Something has gone terribly wrong. What could it be? Well, I’m not going to say. You’ll have to read Pride Fall when it comes out on November 17th.
To celebrate the first book is going to be free from the 13th to the 17th.
Thank you so much Daniel!
